Good question! There have been not just one, but many effects with the rise of these two subjects. Let's begin with the essential factors that caused the rise in consumism:

  • Mass production.
  • Mass advertising.
  • Massive credit approval.
  • And economic prosperity.

These 4 factors are the perfect formula to create a consumist society, which in return gives us the following effects, some good but some terrible:

  • Massive contamination.
  • Raised standard for average living/household.
  • Continuous encouragment to adquire new goods.

Now, regarding the new technologies we mostly can say that the positive effects weight a lot more than the negative effects.

  • Assembly lines are faster, which increases the supply of new products. Almost everyone now can have a phone, or a TV, or a car.
  • Technological innovations have increased manufacturing efficiency.
  • Life expectancy rates are much higher now.
  • Rapid consumption of resources.
  • Day-to-day simplification

Let's not forget that we are quickly consuming resources from our planet Earth. The best society is an ecologic and sustainable society :)

Happy holidays!

  1. Mass Production:::One of the effects of the rise of the consumer economy and new technologies was mass production of products all over the world to satisfy consumers, local and abroad.
  2. Assembly Line:::Big tasks were divided into small ones so that unskilled workers might be able to finish their tasks and help in mass production.
  3. Standard of Living:::Consumer economy has raised the standard of living of people all of the world.Even if a product is not available in a particular,it is exported from some other country to make it available for consumer consumption.
