In Polar Opposites, the author shows by describing a daily situation how people can be so different and yet love eachother so much.

In the first part, we can see how the man is interested in what she likes doing, how he cares about her feelings and interests. When the author answers the questions, she realizes that he doesn't share her activity of reading poems, actually, he doesn't even seem to understand this hobbie of hers. Despite this, she feels they have a real connection and that being opposites in their likes doesn't tear them apart from each other. They share other things, they share love. They don't need to be the same, they just need to respect and love each other. This is what the author means by "polar opposites".
