Remember that science uses vectors to describe anything that has both a direction and a magnitude (size or quantity). These are drawn as pointed arrows, which length represents the magnitude. They are very used to locate persons or objects as the final direction can be predicted using a reference point, an stimated speed and direction. Vectors are also usefull to predict what would happen if two objects come into contact, an example would be predicting the movement of billiard balls, or calculating the trajectory of a golf ball.
