Canada didn't fought an independence war against Britain like the U.S., instead they slowly acquired full sovereignty during the 20th century, two ways that their independence is different from the U.S.'s are:

• They are in the Commonwealth of Nations, an intergovernmental organisation of 53 states, mostly old british colonies
• They still recognize the english monarch as Head of State, while the prime minister acts as Head of Government
