The cost to attend a movie is $9 for adults, while children are admitted for $6. if a movie was attended by 58 people who paid a total of $387, how many adults and how many children attended the movie

ADULTS = 13, CHILDREN = 45

SOLUTION

Let x = the number of adult tickets sold

Let y = the number of child tickets sold

x + y = 58

y = 58 - x

9x + 6y = 387

9x + 6(58-x) = 387

9x + 348 - 6x = 387

9x - 6x = 387 - 348

3x = 39

x = 13

y = 58 - x

y = 58 - 13

y = 45
