As per given,

Multiply 7 on both sides of (i), we get

`7x+7y=280\ \ \ (iii)`

Eliminate (iii) from (ii), we get

`2y= 30\\\\\Rightarrow\ y=15`

Put value of y in (i) ,
`x+15=40\Rightarrow\ x= 40-15= 25`
