There are 32 fish in the tank. The fish are either orange (x) and red (y).! There are 5 more red fish than twice the number of orange fish. Write the two equations in order to solve the system and then tell me how many orange and red fish are in the tank.

Answer:

23 red fishes

9 orange fishes

Explanation:

Given that:

Total number of fishes = 32

Red fish = y ; orange fish = x

x + y = 32 - - - (1)

y = 2x + 5 - - - (2)

Put y = 2x + 5 into equation (1)

x + 2x + 5 = 32

3x + 5 = 32

3x = 32 - 5

3x = 27

x = 27 / 3

x = 9

From (1):

9 + y = 32

y = 32 - 9

y = 23

There are :

23 red fishes

9 orange fishes
