2.5 ft.

a rectangle's area is Length • Width

8.5 = 3.4 * x

8.5 / 3.4 = x

2.5 = x

Answer:

Area of rectangle is equal to multiply the length by width

i.e
A = l* w .....[1]

where

A is the area of rectangle ,

l is the length and

w is the width of the rectangle respectively.

Given : Area of rectangular do pen(A) =
8(1)/(2) = (17)/(2) square feet and width(w) =
3(2)/(5) = (17)/(5) feet.

To calculate the length in feet.

Substitute the given values in [1], we get

(17)/(2)= l* (17)/(5)

Multiply both sides by
(5)/(17) we get;

l = (17)/(2) * (5)/(17) =(5)/(2) = 2(1)/(2) feet.

Therefore, the length in feet is,
2(1)/(2)
