y = mx + b "m" is the slope, "b" is the y-intercept

You know:

m = 9

b = -6

y = 59

Plug this into the equation

y = mx + b

59 = 9x + (-6) ----> 59 = 9x - 6 Solve for x (get x by itself) Add 6 on both sides

65 = 9x Divide 9 on both sides

(65)/(9)=x
