You know the slope of a line and a point on the line that is not the y-intercept. Can you use a graph to write the equation of the line in slope-intercept form? Explain.

sure you could as long as you have the point.

for example let's say the slope is 2 and the point we are given is (4,4)

we know that:

y = mx + b
plug in the values given
x=4
y=4
m=2

4 = 2(4) + b
b, the y intercept equals -4.

so:

y = 2x - 4
in this case
