The importance of the Plessy v. Ferguson court ruling was that it emphasized and promoted segregation in the United States.
What was Plessy v. Ferguson?
Plessy v. Ferguson, ruled officially in 1896, was a significant court ruling in which the Supreme Court essentially ruled segregation to be constitutional as long as everybody was equal. This ruling was extremely controversial for most; it also influenced the subhuman treatment toward blacks and people of African descent. Although it was later overruled and seen as unethical, it was widely accepted and tolerated in its time.
