Due to this disease RBCs are rapidly lost from blood prior to they go for circulation, therefore it is called as hemolytic disorder because it destructs cell membrane of RBCs results in the release of hemoglobin.

There is another interesting fact about Sickle cell anemia. The disease is caused by a mutation in a gene, and the disease is genetically recessive which means you need two mutated genes to develop Sickle cell Anemia, However, if you are carrier of disease but healthy, then you will be resistant to the deadly disease Malaria.This mutation increased the likelihood that carriers for sickle cell disease will survive malaria infection.
