Step 1 is to sort the data from smallest to largest. This has already been done for us.

Step 2 is to cross off the outer most values until you arrive at a middle point. Check out the attached image for further details of what I mean

You'll find that 85 and 89 are tied for the middle most position, so we find the midpoint of these two values. Add them up and divide by 2

(85+89)/2 = 174/2 = 87

Answer: The median is 87
