The Checkered Cab Company charges a flat rate of $1.75 flat rate in addition to $0.65 per mile. Mandy has no more than $12.00 to spend on a cab ride. Write an inequality to represent the situation. How many miles can Mandy travel without exceeding her limit?

(a) State the inequality, and then
(b) state the answer. Round the answer to the nearest mile.

Let x = number of miles

Think: Flat rate + Cost per mile is no more than $12 ik

Answer:

12≥0.65x+1.75

x=15

Explanation:

flat rate:1.75

plus

0.65 dollars per mile

max amount is 12 dollars

12≥0.65x+1.75

is the inequality.

now lets solve it

0.65x+1.75≤12

Subtract 1.75 from both sides.

0.65x≤10.25

Divide both sides by 0.65.

x≤15.769231

now round nearest mile.

15 miles is the maximum amount because if Mandy traveled 16 miles Mandy would have to pay over 12 dollar amount.
