Scenario: If the distance from person to the base of tree is 70 ft and the tree is 115 ft tall, how much does the person look up to see the top of the tree (i.e. Find the angle of elevation)? Note: you need to draw the triangle to figure out the layout on your own for this problem.

Answer:

Explanation:

Alright, lets get started.

Please refer the diagram I have attached.

This is a right angle triangle.

Suppose the angle from person to top of the tree is x

Using SOH CAH TOA

Tan x =
(opposite)/(adjacent)

Tan x =
(115)/(70)

Tan x = 1.6428

taking tan inverse

x = 58.67 degrees

Means the person need to look up 58.67 degrees. : Answer

Hope it will help :)
