At the end of the story Lilia feels that she can finally throw away her remaining candies from Mr. Pirzada because she knows that Mr. Pirzada and his daugthers are safe. She recieved a postcard from Mr. Pirzada telling them that he found his daugthers and that they are alright. Every night, Lilia would eat a candy and pray for Mr. Pirzada, so when she found out that they are alright she did not see a need to keep them. Also, that one night that they toasted a drink in honor or Mr. Pirzada is when Lilia really felt his absence, and her parents can to the conclusion that they would most likely never see Mr. Pirzada ever again. This night is when Lilia threw away the candies also because of the fact that she did not see a reason to keep them since she was never going to see Mr. Pirzada ever again.
