the denominator of f(x) cannot be zero as this would make f(x) undefined.

equating the denominator to zero and solving gives the value that x cannot be.

6x + 6 = 0 ( subtract 6 from both sides )

6x = - 6 ( divide both sides by 6 )

x = - 1 ← excluded value

domain (- ∞, - 1 ) u (- 1, ∞ )
