Answer:

y = 5

x = 2

Explanation:

So we know what x is already.

x = 4y + 22

Now we plug that in to the first equation.

-3 ( 4y + 22) - y = -1

Distribute the -3.

-12y - 66 - y = -1

Combined like terms:

-13y - 66 = -1

-13y = 65

Divide -13 on both sides:

y = -5

Now plug your y into the second equation:

x = 4(-5) + 22

x = -20 + 22

Simplify:

x = 2

Check your answer:

-6 - (-5) = -1

2 = -20 + 22

Answer:

x=2

y=-5

Explanation:

-3(4y+22)-y=-1

-12y-66-y=-1

-13y-66=-1

-13y=65

y=-5

x=4(-5)+22

x=-20+22

x=2
