A Doll's House was a play created by Henrik Ibsen, which premiered in Denmark in 1879. The play achieved worldwide fame as it was the first time a theatrical production addressed the issue of gender inequality in times where the dominance of males in society was widely accepted.
One can notice this inequality in certain passages of the play:
- Mrs. Linde, whose husband passed away, was forced to take care of her sick mother and younger brothers, even though they were old enough to take care of themselves.
- After engaging in a discussión with Torvald when the truth about her complicity with Krogstad is known, Nora tells him that she is not happy next to him and she thinks she has been "treated like a doll" to be played with and admired.
