As given, Gregory is an American photojournalist in Turkey. He makes a purchase for 32 Turkish lira.

The conversion rate on that day is given as :

1 USD = 1.60 Turkish Lira

or

1.60 Turkish Lira = 1 USD

So, we have to find the value of 32 Turkish Lira in USD. Let us assume that we have to find the value in USD using the same conversion rate.

32 TL =
(32)/(1.60)=20

Hence, 32 Lira = 20.00 USD
