A wire 27 ft long is cut into two pieces. Each piece is bent into the shape of a square. The perimeter of the larger square is twice the perimeter of the smaller square. Find the perimeter of the larger square.

Perimeter of the smaller square = 9 ft

Perimeter of the larger square = 18 ft

Explanation:

Let

Perimeter of the smaller square = x

The perimeter of the larger square is twice the perimeter of the smaller square.

Perimeter of the larger square = 2x

Total Length of the piece of wire = 27 ft

Total = smaller + larger

27 = x + 2x

27 = 3x

x = 27/3

x = 9 ft

Perimeter of the smaller square = x

= 9 ft

Perimeter of the larger square = 2x

= 2(9)

= 18 ft
