Hello from MrBillDoesMath

Answer: y = (-9/4)x - 4. Sample table provided below

Discussion :

Slope intercept form of a line is y = mx + b where m is the slope of the non-vertical line.

m = (diff of y values) / (diff of x values) =

(-4 -5) /( 0- (-4)) = -9 / (4) = -9/4

So y = (-9/4)x + b. As the line passes through the point ( -4,5), substituting those x, y values in the point intercept form gives

5 = (-9/4)(-4) + b =>

5 =-9 + b => (subtract 9 form each side)

5 - 9 = -4 = b, so b = -4

y = (-9/4)x - 4

The problem asks for this in a table..... (a small sample follows)

x y

0 -4

4 -13

8 -22

12 -31

Thank you,

Mr. B
