Distribute 6 into the parentheses and it would become

6x+24=8x-16

Subtract 24 from each side and it becomes

6x=8x-40

Then subtract 8 from 8x and you get

-2x=-40

Divide by -2 and get

X=20

6x+24 = 8x-16 subtract by on both sides
-24. -24
6x = 8x-40 subtract by on both sides
-6x. -6x

2x = -40
divide both by 2 on each side
and X=20
