Answer:

Mesoamerica is the historical and cultural region that encompasses current Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Belize and Nicaragua. Throughout this region, several indigenous cultures established themselves and evolved, the two best known probably being the Mayas and the Aztecs.

One of the most characteristic and unique features of all of these cultures, the Olmecs, the Toltecs, The Mexica, the Mayas, among many others, is that all of them derived from the first nomads that arrived in the Americas and at first they depended on hunting. It was not until around 8000 to 2000 BCE that agriculture and settlement arose in these peoples, and with it, also the establishment of polities, or organized cities with a political, social, cultural and economic structure. It is then that such important tribes as the Mayas gained their prestige.

The second thing is that these tribes developed a language all on their own, without any influence from other human beings. There are only two other such cases: Sumer and China. With the rise of language, and a scriptural system, further social development, far beyond what would be expected from such ancient tribes, arose as well.

The final really unique characteristic, was the architecture that these tribes developed. With very few variations, almost all of them shared identical construction techniques and their important cities, like Tenochtitlán, were built in the style known as the Puuc, atop flat hills, pyramid style, with tiers and the use of masonry that evolved from the first periods before 8000 BCE, that amazes people even today, because of its advancement.

Mesoamerica was diverse civilizations with similar cultural characteristics in the geographic areas of modern-day countries like; Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, and Costa Rica with similar cultural traits among Mesoamerican peoples. These cultures comprised of a complex pantheon of deities, trade, architectural features, ballgames, a 260 days per year calendar, food with a dependence on maize, beans, and squash with dress, and accouterments like earspools. The physical characteristics of Mesoamerica were amazingly diverse with humid tropical areas, high mountainous terrains, deserts, and low coastal plains. These geographical areas had similar cultural traits before the invasion of Europeans.
