Enslaved people openly or actively resisted enslavement by running away from the plantation.

Many slaves, facing the impossibility of having freedom and a decent life, resisted enslavement openly by running away from the harsh labor and living conditions of plantations. The majority had to run long distance on foot to a safer place. In the U.S.'s for example, before and during the Civil War (1861-65), runaways tried to reach safety in a free state or in Canada.

African slaves resisted enslavement by running away. After Europeans denounce slavery, they actively worked to help African slaves escape their owners, because it was considered unnatural and inconsistent with God's law. They also resisted it by planning revolts, poisoning food and fighting back.
