The peripheral nervous system has a number of parts:
Nerves are cordlike structures that carry impulses from one part of the body to another. In the PNS,
there are 12 pairs of cranial nerves and 31 pairs of spinal nerves.
Ganglia (singular: ganglion) are groups of nerve cell bodies located outside the central nervous
system.
Glia are cells that support and nourish nervous tissue.
Neurons conduct nerve impulses to carry out the functions of the nervous system.
