Fungus: Important because it breaks up several dead leaves, particles, etc, and puts nutrients back in the ground.

Carnivores: eat dead animals, no stinky rotten meat around.

Definition of Decomposer

Decomposers are consumers that breakdown plants and waste into smaller pieces. This provides the soil with nutrients. Fungi (such as mushrooms and mould) that grows on bread, fruits, and veggies are also decomposers.

Bacteria

Many people do not realize that bacteria is a decomposer.

Did you know?

Most families in Toronto have a compost system where they put all uneaten food and products that can be broken up into a seperate bin.

Do any of your families use a compost system?
