Israel's security barrier in the West Bank has caused serious challenges for Israelis and Palestinians. Israelis view the barrier as essential and as a protective measure for the Jewish settlements in the area. Palestinians, however, see it as an effort to exacerbate the ongoing conflict over access to land for the Palestinians. The Oslo Accords signed between the two parties provides levels of Palestinian autonomy within the area. Palestinians control about 11% of the area (Palestinian Authority) and the Israelis control about 61% of the area.
