The equations


2x^2+9x-5=0

and


2\left(t-\frac12\right)^2+9\left(t-\frac12\right)-5=0

are really the same, we're just setting
x=t-\frac12, or
t=x+\frac12.


2x^2+9x-5=(2x-1)(x+5)=0\implies x=\frac12,x=-5

So we get


t=\frac12+\frac12=1,t=-5+\frac12=-\frac92
