6x + 4 - x = 2(x+1)


First combine like terms on the left side:

6x-x - 5x

So you have 5x+4 on the left side.


Then use the distributive property on the right side:

2(x+1) becomes 2x +2


Now you have 5x +4 = 2x +2

Subtract 4 from each side:

5x = 2x -2

Subtract 2x from each side:

3x = -2


Divide both sides by 3:

x = -2/3
