Explanation:

Well the roots of a polynomial are when that polynomial is set to zero. So this becomes
2x^(2) +2x-24=0. Dividing by two on both sides we get
x^(2)+x-12=0. Then, by factoring we get
(x+4)(x-3)=0. Then, since one of them has to be zero, we get two equations:
(x+4)=0 and
(x-3)=0. Solving we get
x=-4 and
x=3.
