Nyla purchased a dress for $42.60 including tax. The dress tag had an original sticker price of $40.00. What percent sales tax did Nyla pay on the dress? Show your work

Hey there, if you want to know the tax of 40 dollars. The answer is going too be 43.20. Or if you want to know just the tax its going to be 3.20.


The way i did this was to multiply 40 times 8 since each tax is 8 cents.

First you subtract the cost without tax from the cost with the tax: 42.60 - 40 = 2.60; Then you divide the part by the original price before tax: 2.60 ÷ 40 = 0.065; Multiply your answer by 100 to get the actual percent: 0.065 x 100 = 6.5. The percent of the sales tax would be 6.5%.
