Explanation:

Any equation represents a relationship between one or more variables. For two variables, it means you input an x and get a y, for all x. m tells you how fast that y is going to increase because you're multiplying a number by x which makes it increase faster or slower. The b represents the shift of up and down from a line. If you can imagine every possible point on a line being subtracted or added by a number b, it'll shift it up or down because of the definition of a function of x. When x is zero, b is left, and if x is zero, only the y can be determined, or just the y axis. So the point would be (0,b) on the y axis, which it is where the b will intercept it.
