Answer: 14 dimes and 8 quarters

Explanation:

dimes ($0.10): x + 6

quarters ($0.25): x

Cost*quantity of dimes + Cost*quantity of quarters = Total value

0.10(x + 6) + x(0.25) = 3.40

0.10x + 0.60 + 0.25x = 3.40

0.35x + 0.60 = 3.40

-0.60 -0.60

0.35x = 2.80

÷0.35 ÷0.35

x = 8

dimes: x + 6 = 8 + 6 = 14
