The New South Era was a period in the late 1800s and early 1900s that saw an increase in urbanization and manufacturing and a decrease of the pre-Civil War agrarian society in the Deep South. The individuals that were important African Americans during the New South Era were: W.E.B. Du Bois, Booker T. Washington, and Alonzo Herndon.

While Martin Luther King, Jr was a influential leader of the civil rights movement in the 50s, he was not part of the New South Era.
