distribute

4 - 2*7 -2*8x = 12 -6*3x -6(-7) +4x

4 - 14 -16x = 12 -12x+42 + 4x

combine like terms

-10 -16x = 54 - 8x

add 16x to each side

-10 -16x+16x =54-8x+16x

-10 = 54 +8x

subtract 54 from each side

-10-54 = 54-54 +8x

-64 = 8x

divide by 8

-64/8 = 8x/8

-8 = x
