Why did early civilizations develop forms of writing

The answer would be "to make and keep records"

~ Fun fact, the Sumerians were the first civilization to develop writing around 3500 BCE.

The earliest form of writing was developed for long-distance communication and record-keeping. This need for a new form of communication was brought.
