Oliver needed to build 10 chairs to go with a dining room table that he had built. At the start of the second day he had completed 4 chairs, and by the end of second day of work, he had worked for 9 hours and completed 7 chairs in total.

Explanation:

He had already completed 4 chairs, and worked for 9 hours to complete three more, bringing him to 7 chairs. 9/3 = 3, therefore it takes 3 hours per chair. He needs three more chairs, so 3x3=9, therefore 9 hours are left to finish the last three chairs.
