Answer: 11

Explanation:

There are 6 numbers and the mean is 10. When finding the mean, you divide the sum by the number of values.

All we need to do is find the sum and go backward.

10*6 = 60, the sum is 60 of all the numbers, including y.

Now find the sum of the numbers excluding y, 10+11+10+8 = 49.

The sum of the numbers without Y is 49.

Subtract 60-49 to see what y is.

60 - 49 = 11

Y=11

If you don't understand why I subtracted 60 and 49, it is because all I did was take away y from the sums, therefore we can see the differences with and without y.

To find the mean of a number sequence, add all the numbers together and divide them by the number of numbers used...

10 + 11 + 10 + 10 + 8 = 49

49 ÷ 5 = 9.8

The mean does not match 10, so make up numbers untill it matches.

10 + 11 + 10 + 10 + 8 + 6 ÷ 6

= 10 !

The anwser would be y = 6
