How old am I if 400 reduced by 2 times my age is 232?

Hi!

We will solve this like this:

400 - 2*a = 232 where a is your age

400 - 232 = 2*a

2*a = 168

a = 168/2

a = 84

You are 84 years old.

a = age

400 - 2a = 232

subtract 400 from each side

400 -2a -400 = 232-400

-2a = -168

divide by -2

-2a/-2 = -168/-2
