Answer:

3 cups of 11% whole wheat and 9 cups of 63% whole wheat should be mixed to prepare 12 cups of 50% whole wheat.

Explanation:

It is given in the question that a baker have two bags one of 11% whole wheat and other one with 63% whole wheat.We have to prepare a mixture of 50% whole wheat.

Let x cups 11% whole wheat has been taken and y cups 63% whole wheat are mixed.

Total mixture of x+y = 12 ------(1)

and 11x+63y = 12×50=600

11x+63y = 600------------(2)

Now multiply (1) by 11

11x+11y = 11×12 = 132--------(3)

Now we subtract (2)-(3)

11x+63y-11x-11y = 600-132

52y = 468

y = 468÷52 =9

By putting this value y = 9 in the equation no-(1)

x+9 = 12

x = 12-9 =3

So 3 cups of 11% whole wheat and 9 cups of 63% whole wheat should be mixed.
