- |3x+4| = -13

Divide both sides by -1.

\sf{(-|3x+4|)/(-1)=\cfrac{-13}{-1} }

Solve Absolute Value.

| 3x + 4| = 13

We know either 3x+4=13 or 3x + 4 = -13

3x + 4 = 13 (Possibility 1)

3x + 4 − 4 = 13 - 4 (Subtract 4 from both sides)

3x = 9

3x/3 = 9/x (Divide both sides by 3)

x = 3

3x + 4 = −13 (Possibility 2)

3x + 4 − 4 = −13−4 (Subtract 4 from both sides)

3x = −17

3x/3 = -17/3 (Divide both sides by 3)

x = -17/3
