When you write a repeating decimal, how do you decide where to draw the bar?

You put the bar over the first number after the decimal

Honestly, i dont know how you decide but when putting a bar over the repeating decimal

For example:

7.999999999

You would put the bar over the first and second numbers that are repeating like:

7.99

The first two 9s would have the repeating bar over them
