Ms. Sacksteader owns a grocery store. She buys 272 pounds of potatoes for $99. She wants to sell them for twice as much. She makes 9 containing 10 pounds each and puts the rest in 5-pound bags. Her family will eat any leftover potatoes. Ms. Sacksteader wants to know how many 5-pound bags of potatoes she can sell. (Each 5-pound bag if potatoes sells for $4.)

Answer:

36 bags

Explanation:

Thinking process:

Data:

The cost price = $ 99

The weight of potatoes = 272 pounds

9 bags containing 10 pounds gives = 9 × 10

= 90 pounds

The remainder = 272 - 90

= 182 pounds

dividing the remainder into 5 pound bags = 182/5

= 36.4

or

The remainder will be 2 pounds

She will sell 36 five-pound bags
