First let's multiply the 2nd equation by 2 so:

2x + 3y = 4 \\ 2x + 4y = 12
Now we will eliminate the x variable by subtracting equation 2 from equation 1.

2x + 3y = 4 \\ - (2x + 4y = 12) \\ - - - - - - - - \\ - y = - 8 \\ y = 8
Now plug in your y value into any of the 2 equations, let's use the 1st equation:

2x+3(8)=4
2x+24=4
2x=-20
x=-10

and so the solution is (-10,8)
