Answer: x=4 and y= 1

Step-by-step explanation: 1 Solve for yy in 3x+y=133x+y=13.

y=13-3x

y=13−3x

2 Substitute y=13-3xy=13−3x into 5x-2y=185x−2y=18.

11x-26=18

11x−26=18

3 Solve for xx in 11x-26=1811x−26=18.

x=4

x=4

4 Substitute x=4x=4 into y=13-3xy=13−3x.

y=1

y=1

5 Therefore,

\begin{aligned}&x=4\\&y=1\end{aligned}

x=4

y=1

So for the first one you would do 3(4)+1=13 because 3(4)=12 12+1=13

For the second one it will be 5(4)-2(1)=18 because 5(4)=20 and 2(1)=2 and 20-2=18
