y = mx + b "m" is the slope, "b" is the y-intercept

For lines to be parallel, their slopes have to be the same.

The given line's slope is 1, so the parallel line's slope is also 1

y = 1x + b or y = x + b

To find "b", plug in (-2,3) into the equation:

y = x + b

3 = -2 + b Add 2 on both sides

5 = b

y = x + 5
