h =0 ft

h=-16(t-1.5)(t+1)

this function crosses the t axis when the diver hits the water

set the equation equal to 0

0=-16(t-1.5)(t+1)

divide by -16

0 =(t-1.5)(t+1)

we can use the zero product property to find when this happens

t-1.5 =0 t+1 =0

t = 1.5 t= -1

time cannot be negative

t =1.5 seconds


the height will be 0 when the diver hits the water
