first we subtract 4 from both sides to get the right side equal to 0. x^2-12x+32. then we need to find two numbers that multiply to 36 and add to -12. we know that the numbers need to be negative because they add to a negative number. also if only one was negative, then the product won't be positive. the two numbers are -8 and -4. (x-4)(x-8). x then equals 4 and 8.
