-2x - 7 = 3(4x + 7) Distribute/multiply 3 into (4x + 7)

-2x - 7 = 12x + 21 Add 2x on both sides

-2x + 2x - 7 = 12x + 2x + 21

-7 = 14x + 21 Subtract 21 on both sides

-7 - 21 = 14x + 21 - 21

-28 = 14x Divide 14 on both sides

-2 = x

Answer:

x=-2

Explanation:

-2x-7=3(4x+7)

distribute

-2x-7 = 3*4x +3*7

-2x-7 = 12x+21

add 2x to each side

-2x-7+2x = 12x+2x+21

-7 = 14x+21

subtract 21 from each side

-7-21 = 14x+21-21

-28 = 14x

divide by 14

-28/14 = 14x/14

-2 =x
